Angela Johnston Volunteer Representative

Name:

Angela Johnston

Why I joined the organisation and what I hope to achieve:

I joined SCC as a volunteer 12 years ago after hearing an appeal at my church. During my time as a volunteer I have seen firsthand the difference a weekly visit can have to a lonely isolated person. I helped look after both my parents and several elderly neighbours on a daily basis.

I hope my experience as a volunteer can contribute to the work of the board of trustees of SCC.

Background:

I was born in Camberwell and have lived there all my life. I attend The Sacred Heart church in Camberwell. I have been a widow for 14 years , I have two grown up sons , and four grandchildren.

I left school at 16 with 5 O levels and later obtained an ONC in chemistry. I worked for 6 years as a Food science technician for Sainsburys, and then as a school science technician at Charles Edward Brooke School in Lambeth where I worked for 28 years until I retired in 2003.

Interesting fact:

I have a City and Guilds certificate in chocolate and sugar confectionary and a certificate in sugar flower making, I also enjoy painting with water colours.
