Norma Searles Volunteer Representative
Name:
Norma Searles
In 2004 an appointment for volunteers for Southwark Churches Care (SCC) was made in the church I attend. I became a befriender and have met some wonderful people. In 2007 I became one of two volunteer representatives on the board of trustees. During the present challenging times I hope that my fellow trustees and myself will be able to use experience to steer SCC into an even stronger position within the communities we serve.
I was born in Jamaica, West Indies and was educated at a Church of England boarding school. I came to England in my late teens to study Nursing. I worked at Lewisham and Kings College hospital. I left nursing in 1979 and worked within reprographics .
I took part in the London Strollathon for 5 years. I have helped with Breakthrough and 'Moon Walk' in a voluntary capacity. In March 2009 I was awarded a Southwark Star in recognition of my voluntary work.
Other organisations of which I am involved:
Kings College Hospital-BOG member & volunteer in Accident and Emergency. The Elms Care Home- Volunteer.
